America the beautiful.
Last night I sat in my dorm’s lounge beginning at 7:00 PM, watching and waiting as the results were displayed. Every percentage change either added tension or caused cheers to erupt from the group watching CNN. Although many predicted Obama would be the victor, I have no doubt that even Obama’s most fervent supporters doubted such good news. People we’re nervous. Finally America took a chance for something better.
At 11:00 PM, myself and a few others jumped on the subway towards Times Square. I have never seen so many happy or emotional people in my entire life. The streets and sidewalks were overflowing with people yelling, chanting, giving hugs, crying, laughing and smiling. I have never been more confident on the capactiy for optomistim as I was last night. I hope this “high” for America lasts a while, it’s what we need.
On the otherside of the country, however, Proposition 8 passed. Which I personally do not agree with. But, that’s another topic, one that probably will not be titled “America the beautiful.”
